When it comes to great walking, jogging, and cycling—Birmingham doesn’t usually come to mind.

EV World selected Birmingham as one America’s five least bike-friendly cities

“Growth has led to sprawl, but city planning has lagged behind in growth when it comes to bicycle and pedestrian safety…a lack of bike lanes and useful paths across the city make it one of the least bike-friendly cities in the United States.”

Well, we’ve had enough and we’re going to change the landscape of Birmingham forever.

A community leader gives Rotarian types hell

Our goal:  Better government for our region.

Birmingham’s an amazing community in many ways.

It’s difficult to explain, but we have the largest and most successful civic clubs on earth.

Clueless community leaders cheer Birmingham School seizure

I grew up in Mt. Brook.

My children went to Mt. Brook schools.

I now live in Vestavia Hills.

I belong to the Rotary Club of Birmingham.

However, we can say with complete confidence that Birmingham has the biggest and best civic clubs on earth.

Our Birmingham Rotary Club is the largest in the world.

We’re losing our children

I was eating lunch at Rotary and I couldn’t believe the table conversation.

A Rotarian who is also a business owner said, “I am so disappointed in Birmingham.  I hope when my children graduate college they’ll move to another city where they have greater opportunities.”

Another responded, “I feel the same way. In fact, if I could move my business, I would move tomorrow.” Continue reading We’re losing our children
