Let’s sing the praises of Birmingham

VulcanBy David Sher

Who says all internet columns have be boring and dull?

Birmingham, let’s have some fun!

We have so many reasons to be proud and it’s time to sing our cities praises.

There have been many songs written about our Magic City through the years, but nothing recently.

So let’s go out, put on our dancing shoes, and have a good time.

Click on the start button and sing along with the lyrics below…

Birmingham, sweet Birmingham

Rolling hills and southern pines
Magic City’s bright designs
Vulcan watches from above
This city that we’ve grown to love

Birmingham, sweet Birmingham
Where railroad tracks meet mountain land
From Five Points South to Sloss’s frames
The Magic City calls your name

Civil Rights and courage strong
Healing hearts and moving on
Churches, parks, and friendly faces
Food that takes you places

Red Mountain cuts across the sky
With UAB reaching high
Mix old and new in perfect ways
As children laugh and fountains spray

Regions Field on summer nights
Barber curves and racing sights
Southern food that can’t be beat
Good folks smiling on each street

Birmingham, sweet Birmingham
Where dreams are born and spirits
The Magic City’s at your door
Sweet home Birmingham

  1. As something of a creative myself–and one not at all sold on AI’s ability to obtain the subtle warmth and reality required for such endeavors–I have to admit this ditty about our city is pretty good. I’d love to hear it interpreted by some of our local–and warm-blooded–talent!
